Top 3 Children’s Books about Lions

PositiveLeePeilin - Books about Lions

With live-action remake of The Lion King now playing, we want to help prepare your child understand The Circle of Life with this list of books about lions!

Lions are known as the kings of the jungle with their physical strength and ferocity. My favourite books about lions invite other views such as patience, friendliness and courage.

Here are my top three picture books about lions:

What’s the balance between playing with friends and quiet alone time?

Lion, Tiger, and Bear are best friends. One day, Tiger and Bear want to play a boisterous game of tag, but Lion wants alone time to paint. Tiger and Bear try enticing Lion to play, but their antics only have the opposite effect and everyone ends up frustrated.

In the end, Lion has a surprise for his friends after they exercise some patience, and each learns why it’s important to have both quiet time and playtime.

This is the must-have guide book to anyone who wants to own a lion as a pet.

It’s kitten delivery day, but SURPRISE:  Congratulations on your new LION! We know you ordered a kitten, but we ran out of those.

Fortunately, this big cat comes with instructions—like, try very hard NOT to look like a zebra. Or a gazelle. Give your lion plenty of space to play and have a blow dryer on standby for after-baths. Soon however, the feathers and fur start flying and everything’s in chaos.

Is there any way a lion could actually be a child’s purr-fect pet?

PS: Look out for the page when the little boy notices he has a picture of a bunny on his t-shirt and immediately covers it up with his buttoned up shirt. Kids crack up when they notice this!

My fave book about lions as its theme is about being true to yourself, mindfulness, and standing by your friends.

Leonard the Lion and Marianne the Duck enjoy an intellectual and happy relationship, talking, playing, and writing poems, until one a pack of bullies questions whether it is right for a lion and a duck to be pals. Leonard soon learns there are many ways to be a lion, and many ways to be a friend, and that sometimes finding just the right words can change the world.

This is a sweet, thoughtful, and much-needed story which will open up readers’ eyes to the importance of being who they are and not backing down to hurtful criticism. It’s an empowering tale about connecting with others and choosing kindness over bullying, and shows children how angry and provocative words can be overcome by empathy and inner courage.

Tadaaa! My top three favourite children’s books about lions for various ages! Let me know if you know of any other lion books which I should include!
